A Long Walk for Peace

“Do not judge a man until you have walked a hundred miles in his moccasins”. This is a saying of Native Americans, a people well acquainted with an oppressor’s greed for their land.

An ICAHD supporter, David Carter, has just walked “a 100 miles or so” from Leicester to 10, Downing Street, London. David has taken the time in his life, especially since his retirement, to learn about the Palestine-Israel conflict, and knows more than most the mutual understanding, effort and sacrifice needed by Palestinians and Israelis, assisted by a benevolent international community, to achieve a just and lasting peace with reconciliation.

In his rucksack he carried two books to present to Gordon Brown and his wife, one by an Israeli and one by a Palestinian who have both walked a long, hard road for peace: Israeli Jeff Halper’s An Israeli in Palestine, and A Palestinian Cry for Reconciliation by Palestinian Naim Ateek, Director of Sabeel (www.sabeel.org). He also carried a gift of Zaytoun olive soap and a bag of 61 pebbles, each pebble representing one year of the occupation.

Donations can be made to support David’s symbolic act of advocacy here. Any monies raised will be split equally between Sabeel & ICAHD unless the donor specifies otherwise.
